The just-released agenda for the 24th annual National Workers’ Compensation and Disability Conference & Expo reveals an event planned to provide strategies and practical solutions for work comp’s most pressing challenges.

During the event, to be held Nov. 11-13 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, you won’t just hear about the problems, like the rising pharmaceutical costs and questionable prescribing practices employers and other workers’ comp payers face.

You can also learn to address those problems, by hearing directly from employers like Wal-Mart. The retailer will share its practices for managing prescription expenses and improving utilization.

The conference producers worked to provide breakout sessions that will instruct on getting the most from work comp’s current service offerings.

Liberty Mutual’s Helmsman Management Services and Home Depot will team up, for example, to explain how to apply nurse case managers to glean the best results from their work. Pacific Gas and Electric and WorkCare Inc. will similarly present results from a telephonic injury assistance program for injured employees.

The agenda also shows that the conference will provide an opportunity to learn about the controversial and game-changing events underway in workers’ comp. For instance, two speakers will present opposing perspectives on the movement to allow employers to opt out of state workers’ comp systems.

You can also learn how to determine whether workers’ comp service providers are doing their best work for your program by hearing Southwest Airlines describe the quality assurance program it employs for vendor selection and management.

The conference program also includes a Disability Management track with breakout presentations like Reyes Holdings, an employer with nearly 18,000 employees worldwide, detailing how it successfully mitigated worker disabilities, productivity and absences with an integrated absence management program.
