The Hartford has named Prateek Chhabra as its next chief risk officer, effective Sept. 1, 2025. Chhabra will succeed Robert Paiano, who plans to retire at the end of the year after a 29-year tenure with the company. Chhabra will report directly to Chairman and CEO Christopher Swift.

“Prateek is an accomplished risk manager with deep knowledge of the insurance industry and known for his ability to turn complex challenges into actionable insights,” said Swift. “He has advanced our risk management capabilities, driven innovation and implemented strategic improvements across our enterprise making him ideally suited for the role of chief risk officer.”

Chhabra joined The Hartford in 2018 as senior vice president and chief insurance risk officer. Before that, he served as chief risk officer for domestic businesses at The Hanover Insurance Group and held risk and strategy consulting roles at McKinsey and Company, Aon, and Verisk (AIR Worldwide at the time).

In his new role, Chhabra will oversee The Hartford’s enterprise risk management framework and guide the company’s approach to risk, capital, and liquidity. &
