Broker Ania Caruso took on a large prepared foods conglomerate as a client just months after it faced a congressional investigation into one of its chief product lines.

This scrutiny affected the entire product category, not just the company, but as its vice president of legal described it, “it became very difficult to procure general liability insurance for all companies” in the sector.

“We didn’t do very well in our first renewal after all this stuff took off and became a big deal, just because it was a challenging time in the market, and a challenging time in the industry,” he explained.

“Through Ania’s connections, savvy and creativity, she was able to turn the whole program around and secure us great coverage with carriers who are excellent partners. We’ve been really happy working with her … She’s really terrific.”

To achieve this impressive outcome, Caruso “first expanded the scope of where we were looking,” including London and Bermuda, the VP explained.

“She did more than just go to market in an ordinary sense; I think she really did a good job of understanding the full landscape, understanding what was available to us, and leveraging her knowledge and relationships to ensure that we got the best coverage possible in a challenging situation.”

Caruso “really understands the risks that we face,” he continued. “She understands, when an industry or business is in crisis, how you need to pivot and ensure that you can still get the right coverage in place. That’s something you only can do if you have a deep understanding and knowledge of the risks involved, and the industry and the business.”
