Jonathan Wheat grew up in a family of real estate investors, where early exposure to portfolio management and disciplined risk assessment shaped his understanding of how insurance underpins long-term investment success.

After spending 13 years as an underwriter, Wheat developed strong technical expertise across complex property risks, capital structures, and coverage design. He moved into advisory work, serving as a strategic partner to real estate owners, developers, and investors.

Malcolm Johnson, CEO of Langdon Park Capital, which owns workforce housing on the West Coast and Washington D.C., said Wheat provides useful insights for buildings that date to the 1960s and ‘70s. “He’s always been helpful and thoughtful about what insurance companies look for in properties that old and how we can work to upgrade those properties so we get the best possible premium for the life of our ownership,” Johnson said.

Wheat helped Langdon develop a plan for replacing electrical panels for a building undergoing an insurance renewal. “He’s very knowledgeable about brands of electric panels and what insurance will and won’t do in regard to those brands,” Johnson said.“He’s got a lot of market intel that we otherwise wouldn’t have access to.”

Wheat is a cofounder of the African American Real Estate Professionals Bay Area Chapter and an active participant in the Urban Land Institute’s REACH Fellowship for emerging developers, reflecting a dedication to mentorship, inclusion and community.
