Peppia Gates Joins Texas Mutual as Vice President for the Houston Region

The leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance for the state of Texas named Peppia Gates as its vice president for the Houston region.

Gates joined Texas Mutual in 2013 in Houston as a senior manager of regional claims. In 2017, she received a leadership award from the insurer for her approach to employee development. Prior to joining Texas Mutual, Gates worked for CorVel Company and the SeaBright Insurance Company.

Simon Tardif Joins Swiss Re Corporate Solutions for Aviation Role

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions made Simon Tardif head of aviation, Canada, effective October 29, 2018.

In the new role, Tardif will be responsible for the growth  and strategy of the aviation team across Canada. For the new position, Tardif relocated from Paris, France, to Toronto. Tardif will oversee a group of underwriters located in Toronto.

Tardif is a Canadian and French national and holds an Advance Certificate Aerospace and Aviation from HEC Paris and a master’s degree in insurance from Conservatoire National des Artes at Metiers, France. Tardif speaks French, English and Russian, having spent a few months working in Moscow with a French reinsurer.

Tardif brings 12 years of insurance experience to the role and has held positions as both a broker and an underwriter.

John Heveran Appointed to SVP and CIO of Global Risk Solutions with Liberty Mutual

John Hervnan was named senior vice president and chief information officer of Global Risk Solutions for Liberty Mutual.

Heveran oversees and manages a team dedicated to delivering innovative technologies and expertise to Liberty International Underwriters, Liberty Specialty Markets, Liberty Mutual Surety, Ironshore and National Insurance.

Hevernan’s appointment is one of a quartet of appointments the insurer made to chief Information Officer James McGlennon’s technology leadership team.

The other appointments were Monica Caldas as senior vice president and chief information officer for Liberty’s Global Retail Markets, Katies Jenkins as senior vice president and chief information security officer and Michael Willock as senior vice president and chief technology officer for Liberty Mutual Investments.

EPIC’s Suzannah Gill Achieves an Elite Health Benefits Certification

San Francisco-based EPIC Insurance Brokers and Consultants announced that benefits strategy consultant Suzanna Gill has been accepted to join the Health Rosetta Certified Benefit Advisor Program.

Gill becomes one of less than 150 Health Rosetta certified advisers across the country.

“It is a great honor and a wonderful feeling to be recognized in this way as we work to re-shape the industry,” Gill said.

“My mission has always been to do away with the waste that has traditionally left employers spending more each your on health insurance, while getting less in benefits,” she said.

John O’Brien Becomes Ascot’s Head of Environmental

Ascot announced the appointment of John O’Brien as executive vice president and head of environmental.

John will be responsible for launching an environmental liabilities and related specialty product business unit accessing both the Admitted and E&S capabilities of Ascot Insurance U.S.

A highly experienced underwriter with over 26 years in the industry, O’Brien was previously president of environmental businesses at both Ironshore and AIG.

Commenting on the appointment, Greg Wolyniec, president and CEO, Ascot Insurance U.S., said: “John is one of the market’s leading experts in the environmental class. His knowledge of the sector and relationships with brokers and clients are very well aligned with our strategy of backing best in-class talent as we grow our business in the U.S.”

RT Specialty/New Day names Joe Reynolds as AVP in Construction and Environmental

Joe Reynolds has been named an assistant vice president in the National Environmental and Construction Professional Liability Practice (formerly New Day Underwriting Managers) at RT Specialty/New Day.

He is responsible for securing environmental- and construction-related professional liability coverage forms for companies representing the architectural, engineering and real estate marketplace.

“Joe has the technical expertise and detailed service-oriented approach our retail clients expect,” said Jeff Slivka, president – National Environmental and Construction Professional Liability Practice, in a press release. “This includes working diligently with brokers and agents nationwide to identify solutions that will best protect their customers from the exposures that can delay projects and financially derail businesses.”

For the past 15 years, Reynolds has specialized in underwriting a wide variety of management and professional liability products.

He has extensive experience developing Architects & Engineers (A&E) and Contractors Professional (CPrL) Liability – including Protective Indemnity and Rectification, Project Specific Professional Liability (PSPL) and Real Estate Developers Errors and Omissions (E&O) programs for project owners, contractors and developers. &
